9 Ways to Shake Up Your Skincare Routine

With the cold weather soon to give way to spring, you might be looking at ways that you can shake up your skincare routine so that your skin will thank you for riding with the seasons. The warmer weather often means that you won’t have the same need for the same products, but you may not know that! Winter skincare vs spring skin care is different and you have to know that so that your skin will thank you.

Spring is the season of rebirth, and most people choose now to be the time they shake up their skincare so that they can clean out their faces as much as their junk and closets. If you have a lot of beauty products, it’s time to have a clear out, just like it’s time to clear out what you’re actually using on your skin in the first place. Companies that can offer Good Life Tallow, for example, can give you the elixir products you need to keep your skin supple year round, but your current skincare routine may not include those products! That means that you need a skincare clearout - of your bathroom cabinets, not just your skin. Let’s take a look at how you can shake your skincare routine right up.

  • Go through your beauty closet. Did you know that beauty products have an expiry date? If you take a look at the bottom of your bottles and tubs, you may see a little tub or lotion bottle shape with ‘12M’ under it. That means that you have twelve months to use the product before the benefits go out the window. There’s a reason that your 2 year old moisturiser is no longer working for you - because the ingredients are expired. Some products have a proper stop date and if yours don't, then you should err on the side of the twelve month rule. Making a point of clearing out your skincare products every spring can help, but you could also label the date of purchase on each product yourself.

  • Put your makeup brushes through the ringer. Well, maybe not a ringer, but washing your sponges and brushes and replacing older ones is a must. In a perfect world, you’d do this after every use but we’re all busy so that’s probably not happening. If you wear makeup regularly, you should do the wash once a week. If you’ve lapsed on this, try not to panic. You should bin everything and restart and then start a new routine of weekly washing to get rid of old makeup, grime, bacteria and dirt. If you don't, you’re introducing all types of nasties to your skin that you could have avoided.

  • Invest in a new moisturiser. Regardless of your skin type, you don't necessarily have to use the same creams in the spring that you did in the winter. Dry skin can last all year long so make sure that you are moisturising regularly and choose moisturisers that work for your skin type. The heaviest moisturisers are often the ones that will clog your pores so it’s time to upgrade and switch it up.

  • Commit to it. If you’re too sporadic about your skincare routine, then it’s time to shake that up. Daily skincare is a must if you want to keep your skin healthy and that means putting your skincare first every morning and evening. You don't have to adopt a fifteen step routine, but the routine that you do put in place for your skin should be respected as much as possible. Twice daily cleansing, moisturising and toning can make all the difference to your skin.

  • Exfoliate, baby, exfoliate! You don't have to get a plastic based scrub for your skin, but exfoliation can help the war that winter once waged on your skin. Low temperatures and cold blasts can encourage your skin to flake and that could be avoided. With facial exfoliation, you can bring your skin back to softness in no time at all.

  • Make haircare part of the routine. You can use products to keep your hair beautifully soft while you are doing your skincare routines. Once a week, pop a hydrating hair mask onto your hair and pamper yourself. You don't have to add too much to your hair, but it can help you to feel good about your skin and your look.

  • Embrace new colours. The pastels of spring are usually well placed for the floral season and your makeup could use an upgrade. With the warmer weather, nail polish and blush colours can be pastel and bright rather than muted and toned. Embracing those eye-catching shades with your polishes can really make a difference.

  • Less is more. As we said, you don't have to have a fifteen step routine but your routine does matter. Streamlining your current routine to make it simpler can and will make a difference to the time it takes you. Embracing your skincare routine to be low-key will still help your skin to glow without you spending a lot of time and money.

  • Eat right. It's spring, so it’s time to shake up your diet. They say you are what you eat, and the right fruits and veggies can help your skin to glow right. Nutrients in your food can compliment the nutrients in your skincare products. You can supplement and boost your nutrient levels, but the right whole foods are what makes the difference. Essential nutrients and vitamins are a must for your skincare to work well.

Spring is a good time, a time for renewal. Taking note of the fact that the summer months are around the corner will help you to realise that winter could be a distant memory for your skin! Yes, you’ll have to shake it up all over again before it gets cold, but you need to make it spring ready first and foremost to improve your skin tone and how supple it is.
