4 Reasons Why Movies Can Be Good For Kids

Movies have been around since 1888, and for a lot of that time people have only thought of them as pieces of entertainment or maybe art (depending on their views and the film itself). When it comes to children, a lot of adults think they shouldn’t watch too many movies and should do other things instead. Although their reasoning might be sound, they’re forgetting one important thing - movies can be good for kids. Read on to find out how below.

Educational

Not all movies are educational, it’s true, but many of the ones made specifically for kids are… even if the children don’t realize it while they’re watching. The lessons they learn can be about all kinds of things, like friendship, bravery, good behavior, perseverance, and so on, but there can also be practical skills like learning how to do math or how to bake. It depends on the film and the reasons behind why it was made, but there’s something to be learned from most movies and some good lessons to be seen by kids.

Encourage Creativity

Something else that makes movies a positive thing for kids to watch (in moderation - that’s the key), is that they can encourage creativity and really spark their imaginations. The amazing worlds and magic they see on screen can make them become inspired to make their own stories, art, or even movies, and that’s a good thing.

When children are able to be as creative as they want and need to be, they can go on to great things in their lives and choose all kinds of different careers that interest them. Plus, being creative is known to be good for your mental health, so finding ways to express creativity is important, and if that way happens to be movies, that’s not a bad thing.

Bonding Time

The world is a busy place, and many parents often find that even if they definitely (maybe even desperately) want to spend more time with their children, it can be tricky. There are just so many other things that have to be done!!

However, if you watch movies together, that can be a great way to spend time together and really connect, especially if you go on to talk about what the films were about and the lessons you all learned. There are some great movies around that are ideal for exactly this kind of bonding time - you can watch Birthright Outlaw here, and that’s a fantastic film to start with, so why not give it a go?

Language Development

Movies can help children get better at talking and understanding language, especially when they’re younger

(although if kids happen to pick up useful new vocabulary from a film, then that’s great no matter what age they happen to be).

It’s amazing how much you can learn from a movie, and it’s not just about words and phrases. Watching different films, kids will be able to hear lots of different accents and dialects as well, and that will help them become even more confident in life.
