Christmas On A Budget – 6 Handmade Décor Ideas To Floor You This Festive Season

If you are moving on a budget this month, celebrating Christmas would be the last thing on your mind, or will it? Who says that you have to compromise on festivities or any of the goodness that they bring in if your monthly budget doesn't allow you to be extravagant. That is totally ok, there are so many ways to do Christmas on a budget. Here are 6 handmade décor ideas for the holiday and festive season that are going to blow your mind away:

1. Sustainable Plastic Christmas Tree

So, you did not buy a regular Christmas tree this year, which is fine. You could not even save up for a small one but that's alright. There are a lot of options in the market today and on the top of this list is the sustainable plastic Christmas tree that is not only affordable but is not even going to dry and shrivel out.

This means that your Christmas decorations can easily last you more than a month without you having to worry about the green leaves turning brown or falling off. Let your kids decorate this tree the way they want and you will notice just how perfect your Christmas is without incurring big expenses. Once you are done with the celebrations, you can take out the decorations and store the tree in your storeroom to be used next year.

2. Self-Painted Wall Units

If you have a set of cabinets, tabletops, drawers, cupboards, and other wooden structures such as room separators in your home that need a makeover, hold it. This is a great chance to paint them all by yourself. You are going to need a few items such as:

  • Sandpaper

  • Glue several medium-sized paint buckets

  • Varnish

  • Christmas decoration items

You will begin by sanding the surface of the structure so that the paint can spread on it easily and stay for a long time. You will then begin by creating your favorite artwork on these surfaces. These could depict Santa bringing in gifts or Mother Mary in all her glory. This is only if you are a good artist but otherwise, just a mistletoe or a Christmas tree painted on these surfaces would look fine.

Don't forget to finish this painting with a coat of varnish. This is going to make sure that the paint does not come off easily and that the structure is preserved for a long time. There you have it. A DIY project for your entire family that everybody is going to love and cherish for a long time.

3. Miniature Elf Family

This is a great idea for homemade Christmas decorations. These tiny little elf family members can easily turn into your centerpieces for the entire Christmas holiday season. You will need a few children-friendly DIY elves from your local craft store. Don't forget to buy wooden beads, felt triangles, bells, and other decorative pieces such as glitter and lace. Now, let your creative juices flow and decorate the elves just the way you want. You can be as playful as you want. This is a great opportunity to allow your children to take the lead.

4. Handmade Miniature Wooden Christmas Tree

This is not your regular Christmas tree. It is a handmade mini wooden Christmas tree that is going to go on your tabletops across your house. All you have to do is get down there to your nearest craft store and pick a few items such as cardboard, a few wooden pieces, colored cloth, tiny colored thread pools, glitter, glue, a pair of strong scissors, and silver/golden lace.

Begin by cutting the cardboard into the shape of a Christmas tree top. Attach them to the wooden pieces with glue. Now, decorate the mini trees just the way you want them. You can also write up cute messages for your family members and place them on your tabletops across your home. These are going to go very well with your dining room Christmas decor, all you have to do is just maintain the same color theme across the space.

5. Handmade Cranberry Wreath

Now, this is one of the most fun projects that you could undertake. You will need one bag of cranberries, but make sure they are not soft. You will also need a wire and a wire cutter. Invest in a few pieces of ribbons as well. You will have to be a little more creative in this one. Begin by creating a wreath out of these items. Keep the size of the wreath such that it can double as a crown on your head. This is a great way to create a party favor that nobody saw coming. You are going to pat yourself on the back after seeing the final result.

6. Do-It-Yourself Iced-Branches

Let's not get rid of those wires just yet. You are going to need them and a few artificial tree stumps as well. Begin by placing these stumps in several corners of your home. Insert these wires into these stumps and make sure that the placement is such that they appear to be protruding out like branches.

Now, cover these wires with a bit of modeling clay, preferably brown to give them more thickness. Mold them into the shape of irregular branches and twigs. Let them dry overnight. Now take out your cotton roll and start making artificial snow. Use a little bit of glue to stick these cotton snowballs onto the artificial branches. You may also hang your little wind chimes and dream catchers along with Christmas balls, mistletoes, miniature Christmas trees, glittering ornaments, and several other decorative items on them.

Let There Be More Joy And More Love

Celebrating Christmas or being a part of festivities on a budget is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone goes through tough times and it is a part of life. This Christmas, let's pray for the happiness and prosperity of everyone around you and your loved ones as well. Happy decorating!
