Gaslamp Quarter Featured Merchant of October: Gaslamp Lumpia Factory

The Only Pulutan Bar in San Diego Brings Authentic Filipino Cuisine to The Gaslamp Quarter

The Gaslamp Quarter is San Diego’s downtown heart and soul, a melting pot of activities, experiences, shops, libations, and delicious dining opportunities. This historic neighborhood boasts a diverse offering of locally owned and operated merchants that are each a part of the larger fabric of what makes the Gaslamp so special. To shed well-deserved praise and buzz to these merchants, the Gaslamp Quarter Association (GQA) will highlight a new Gaslamp merchant each month. In October, the GQA has awarded the merchant spotlight to the Gaslamp Lumpia Factory, a locally owned and operated Filipino eatery that has helped usher in a new era of delicious dining opportunities in the Gaslamp Quarter as a new face in 2022. Located at 423 F Street, it is a can’t miss stop for foodies while in the Gaslamp.

One of the most important things to note about the Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is that it is the only Pulutan Bar in San Diego. For the uninitiated, pulutan, from the Filipino word “pulot,” meaning “to pick up,” is food that normally accompanies drinking. A defining trait of pulutan food is bold flavors and substantial textures, typically served in small amounts similar to the serving style of Spanish tapas. Fast, efficient, and delicious, these dishes can be enjoyed within the Nautical Steampunk themed bar or taken to-go to enjoy during Gaslamp travels.

The focus of the Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is obvious: Lumpia! These Filipino spring rolls are the perfect marriage of crunchy, salty, deliciousness and veggies, pork, or beef. Other Filipino favorites, like pork adobo, pork belly sisig, pancit noodles, and garlic prawns can be found at this intimate restaurant space along with pen de sal sandwiches and other bites. Pair with an ice-cold beer or other libation for the full experience.

“As the largest Filipino/Pacific Islander Population in the Continental U.S, California is a state of growing diversity.” Says Donna Pili, co-owner of the restaurant. “We believe now is the time to catch the wave to showcase a rich culture to a city which is on the verge of an inevitable industrial boom.”

The Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is located at 423 F St, San Diego, CA 92101. Catering to the early birds and the night owls, the restaurant and bar are open late to satisfy diners looking for a delicious meal, a quick snack, and of course pre- and post-bar cravings.
